Get away from Winter Blues with the K-Drama “Would You Like a Cup of Coffee?’’

In the drama, the nuances of being a barista and making coffee are appealing rather than imposing.

The reason we all love Korean dramas is their light-hearted storylines and catchy romance. Most of us prefer watching K-dramas that give us butterflies.

However, the K-Drama “Would you like a cup of coffee?’’ has done an excellent job, creating a different legacy.

The simple storyline of this K-drama comes under “life-genre” and carves a unique soul-soothing play. The drama seems closer to the Japanese series “Midnight Diner” but milder and more upbeat. Of course, there is a risk of failing to please the audience as it does not include typical rom-com plots like other K-Dramas (whose life span depends on how romantic they are.)

The risk was worth taking, and it didn’t go in vain. The drama has 12 episodes of 26 minutes; It garnered ratings of 8/10 on My Drama List, and 8.2 on IMDb. It has effortlessly received praise for its heartwarming and healing vibes during the traumatic Covid-19 period.

Besides, the chemistry between Seo Young Hee and Park So Han sends a message more important than just getting butterflies.

The plotline involves the story of a regular college student and a passionate barista/coffee shop owner who is a perfectionist. The story revolves around these two main characters. Ong Seong Wu plays the role of Kang Go Bi, a college student who is looking for something meaningful to do in his life, alongside Park Ho San, the Coffee shop owner, whose calm and content demeanour makes him a “Safe place” for everyone who visits his coffee shop.

There’s a scene in the drama when construction workers come in for a coffee for the first time, the scene was heartfelt.

After watching this drama, I admit I could not imagine a better person for the role of Kang Go Bi than Ong Seong Wu. A stellar performance, indeed! And for Park Ho San? He has shone as an actor in this series again.

“Would you like a cup of coffee?’’ is a drama that has more expressions than dialogues. A drama with a simple storyline— that too without becoming bland. The characters are neither too intense nor too dull. One can also relate to the supporting cast easily (rare in other dramas). It would not be wrong to say that this drama pays attention to all the characters equally.

This K-drama is perfect for when you’re burdened or overly stressed after work or a hectic day. For coffee lovers, this drama is like a mini-travel vlog where they learn how to make a nice coffee and smell its fragrance beyond the screen. A drama that will make you feel grateful for what you have and appreciate the work of regular workers.

In times when we are questioning and losing faith in society, this series is the perfect example of small hopeful moments in life.

I would definitely recommend this mini-drama if you want a warm and cheerful feeling on your gloomy and long days.
